Each Sunday in April, including Easter Sunday, stay for rich conversation on the poetry of Emily Dickinson. A light snack will be served directly after the church service; class begins at 11:15.
This will not be your high school Emily Dickinson course in which you are asked to guess what the poet means, but rather a class in Christian formation and nurture. Victor will lead us in recognizing theological themes in Dickinson’s poetry that we can take into everyday life.
The world has taught us to interpret literary works through the lens of our own intellectual, political, or cultural biases, but as Christians we are called to process all things through the lens of Christ. These lectures will be a study in developing just such a Christ focused lens.
Victor Judge is the Dean for Academic Affairs at Vanderbilt Divinity School and lecturer in literature and religion specializing in the theological themes in the works of writers such as Flannery O’Connor, Emily Dickinson, Albert Camus, and William Faulkner.
